Vanilla berry bowl recipe with a protein kick

I love smoothies. But if you have them nearly every day, you’re going to get bored. Cue the smoothie bowl. It’s a super simple way to take your smoothie from boring to beautiful. And it’s 100% instagram-worthy. You can essentially take any of your favourite smoothie recipes and just reduce the liquid to leave them a bit thicker, or you can try this simple vanilla berry bowl for breakfast.

All you need to make this recipe is frozen bananas, and frozen berries plus a little almond milk and vanilla. I like to throw in a scoop of protein powder as well to help fuel my muscles, keep my feeling full and rev up my metabolism. But no worries if you don’t have protein powder, you can add nuts or seeds to your berry bowl to get a little more protein.

How to make a vanilla berry bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries or raspberries (or both!)
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2-3 tbsp almond milk (start with less, then add as needed)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder

Directions

  1. Add all of your ingredients to a blender or food processor.
  2. Blend until all your ingredients are combined and creamy. You want a thick texture like a soft serve ice cream.
  3. Spoon your smoothie mix into a bowl, and decorate with your toppings of choice.
  4. Enjoy!

Top your vanilla berry bowl like a boss

Toppings are all you girl, but let me give you some ideas. I love shredded coconut (unsweetened of course!), cacao nibs for some extra crunch or goji berries for an extra boost of skin-loving antioxidants. Fresh fruit chopped up on top is always a winner. As are nuts and seeds. Chia seeds, hemp seeds, almonds and walnuts are some of my favourites.
