How to make a tropical pitaya bowl for breakfast

This tropical pitaya bowl tastes like a sunny vacation. It’s the perfect amount of refreshing on a hot summer’s day, or a welcomed escape from the blustery winter blues. With tropical flavours from pitaya, banana, pineapple and coconut, it’s definitely a tasty smoothie bowl I can’t get enough of. And it’s super good for your body too!

Made with the beautiful bright pink pitaya, which you might also know as dragon fruit, this recipe is loaded with vitamin C and fiber. Both are great for maintaining beautiful skin and supporting your body’s natural detoxification functions. It’s also rich in health-protective antioxidants. With a mildly sweet flavour, pitaya works perfectly in smoothie bowls to keep your breakfast healthy, delicious, and beautiful too!

If you want to take your smoothie bowl to the next level, it’s all about the toppings. I like to add some crunchy goodness like nuts and seeds which also help to provide an extra boost of protein and some healthy fat. Shredded coconut is also amazing for extra flavour, and granola can help make your smoothie bowl a little extra filling.

Tropical pitaya bowl recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces of frozen pitaya
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/3 cup frozen pineapple
  • Juice of  1/2 a lemon
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk
  • Optional: vanilla protein powder

Directions

  1. Add all of your ingredients to a blender or food processor.
  2. Blend until all your ingredients are combined and creamy. You want a thick texture like a soft serve ice cream.
  3. Spoon your smoothie mix into a bowl, and decorate with your toppings of choice.
  4. Enjoy!

Topping options

  • Nuts and seeds (chia seeds are great!)
  • Shredded coconut
  • Fresh fruit, or dried
  • Granola

Here’s a tip ladies, if you’re topping your smoothie bowls with granola, get a good quality one or make it yourself! Store-bought granolas are often loaded with added sugar, which can be easily cut in half if you make your own instead. Try a healthier homemade granola recipe, or skip the added sugar altogether and get your sweetness from fiber-rich dates by making quick and easy rawnola. You can store your homemade goodies for smoothie bowls, parfaits, cereal, or even just snacking.
